Situated in
the Indian state of Rajasthan near the town of Jaisalmer – the
golden city of India – the Desert National
Park is one of the largest national parks
in India. It has the total area of 3162 square kilometres.
The park is a brilliant example of the prefect eco-system
of the Thar Desert – the Great Indian Desert.
Sand dunes, craggy rocks, fixed dunes and salty lakes
form the landscapes the park. Being a desert landscapes
there only few grasses and shrubs that provide food
for the wildlife inhabitants of the park. |

The
animals found in the Desert National Park are Bengal
Fox, Desert Fox, Desert Cat, Chinkara, Black Buck,
Wolf, etc. These animals live in very difficult
topography, stilly they have managed to survive.
Being a famous national park in India, bird population
of the park gives great contribution. There is
an abundance of birdlife found in the park. The
major bird attraction of the park is Great Indian
Bustard – a protected species
in India. It is found in relatively fair numbers
in the park. Other kinds of birds found in the
park are Sand Grouse, Falcons, Buzzards, Vultures,
Kites, Bee Eaters, Eagles, Harriers, Kestrels,
Spotted Eagles, Tawny Eagles, etc.
Sand grouses are generally spotted near small lakes and ponds. One can also see
various species of reptiles while exploring the Desert National Park. Reptiles
found in the park are Monitor Lizards, Desert Snakes, Spiny Tail Lizards, Vipers,
Sand Karaint, etc. Travellers can enjoy Jeep Safari to explore wider area of
the park in very short span of time. Also it is interesting to see the flora
and fauna of the park from the Jeep. Travellers can also enjoy camel safari to
explore the park and its attractions. If you are more interesting and special
interest you can enjoy camping. This will help you to know about the park and
